About, Court Barn Hotel & Restaurant

Owned by Robert and Sue Wood since 1986, now run by Robert and their son Tim, welcome you to their home. Previously having run a Hotel in Dunster they have many years of experience. Built as the ‘Sanctuary’ around the late 17th century, and later known as ‘Court Baron’, the present house was partly rebuilt in 1853, renamed ‘Court Barn’, and had its own chapel. It is a small, but delightful country house, set in five acres of park-like grounds with an aura of peace and quietude.

Today, Court Barn is refurbished with lovely antiques and William Morris prints and fabrics, whilst log fires, ornaments, pictures and flowers give the house a homely and informal atmosphere.

There are now six en suite bedrooms, two lounges, breakfast room, small bar with a library of books for residents use. Relax in front of our Crackling log fire on those cooler nights to create a cosy atmosphere. Court Barn is known for its warm welcome and personal service and relaxed atmosphere.

The elegant breakfast room has views across the croquet lawn to the 12th century Clawton church. The restaurant is furnished with antiques, and is perfect for enjoying the fresh, quality food prepared each day to create their delicious three-course dinners. They are justifiably proud of the many national awards. Court Barn is the perfect location for lovers of unspoilt countryside, safe Blue Flag beaches, nature trails, cycle trails, exploring Dartmoor, Bodmin and Exmoor, National Trust Coastline, English Heritage, will enjoy this unexplored part of Devon and Cornwall.
